About Mercado Commerce
Mercado are a software company that have developed a new eCommerce SaaS platform for SME businesses. It brings together small businesses and links them with communities and audience owners to give them a greater reach and makes them more successful.
Challenge
Mercado’s clients rely on their infrastructure and platform to service their customers’ needs. Mercado needed to ensure website availability to meet growing demand but the company’s traditional infrastructure wasn’t easy to scale.
Mercado approached Ubertas Consulting to help migrate their existing platform to AWS, with the goals of reducing costs and providing elasticity.
Mercado were looking for a partner that would allow them to focus on their core business, in the knowledge that they didn’t have to worry about reliability or security.
Approach
Having assessed Mercado’s needs Ubertas Consulting redesigned their stack to utilise serviced offerings such as RDS. Elastic load balancing was incorporated to provide fault tolerance, SSL termination and the scalability.
By moving its e-commerce platform to AWS, Mercado has improved availability and now can scale on demand. AWS managed serviced options allow Mercado developers to launch new features without the need to administer hardware.

Elasticity
AWS Elastic Load Balancer with auto-scaling allows Mercado’s application to handle the peaks and troughs of demand, whilst only paying for what they use, making it extremely cost-effective.
Reliability
Mercado’s application has been designed and built across two data centres with instant redundancy in the event of catastrophic failure. All without losing the ability to scale.
Security
All of Mercado’s client’s sites are SSL certified for free using AWS Certificate Manager. SSL Certificates are available onto the elastic load balancer, which terminates SSL and removes the load from web servers.
